Ellen, shades of pink - we love it! Your Instagram is full of beautiful content and so inspiring. How can someone incorporate pastel colors without overwhelming a room?

Contrast is key! I believe that by combining the 'sweetness' of pastels with black details in the furniture, such as those with black, sturdy legs or, for example, the hanging system for the lamp above the dining table, which is also black.

In addition, I used to have a tendency to put the color accents mainly on the walls, but nowadays, they are calm in color, and it's the accessories that make my interior!”

For someone who lives in a small apartment or house, do you have any space-saving design ideas that align with your pastel style?

“Our current house isn't very large either, so what I've mainly done is look for furniture that radiates space. Many of the pieces, including the couch with legs, create a more floating and spacious effect.

Additionally, I've used light colors on the walls and ceilings. What really made me happy was the purchase of the organic dining table. It added so much more space to the room!”

Flooowers - we love your flowers and vases. Where do you get those cool vases and how do you choose flowers for it?

“The vases are mostly from design labels because I love to let the flowers shine in my interior. For that reason, I don't have many vases, but I do have a few favorites that I always use in my decor.

There are no vases hidden in my closet. Every week, I visit the florist and choose my flowers, often based on the colors that I currently find fitting for my home (haha, very often pink!). What I always do is remove as much green as possible from the stems and then arrange them in the vase, which makes the colors stand out even more beautifully”

Mixing patterns and textures can add depth to a design. What are some guidelines for selecting and combining patterns and textures?

“I often try to somewhat match the color combinations to make the patterns enhance each other. In terms of texture, I prefer coarse and matte; you won't find shiny fabrics in my space. I believe that the coarse texture adds contrast to the sweetness of the pastel colors.”

Your pillow cases and blankets are an absolute eye-catcher. Any online shops you can recommend?

“My favorites are the coarse Dot cushions from Hay, the striking prints from HK-living, and the smaller cushions in cool colors from Fèst Amsterdam.”

What are some cost-effective ways to achieve a chic and pastel-inspired interior?

“I believe in making conscious choices when purchasing items. Nowadays, I prefer to invest in more expensive, timeless pieces than before. It's because I enjoy them much longer and always make good use of them. An added benefit is that, if I ever find I no longer use something as much, it's easy to sell to enthusiasts.”

What decor object can't be missed?

“Hmmmm... What a tough question! I couldn't choose. I just love accessories that can quickly give your interior a completely different look. Posters, cushions, candles, vases... all items that can truly define your interior style!.”
