Nancy, your Instagram content is fantastic! We adore the vibrant colors, decor & art ideas. Let's begin with colorful walls. What basic tips do you have for someone looking to add color to their home's walls?

“Thank you for your beautiful compliment! I believe the most important thing is to integrate your favorite colors into your home because they will always make you happy when you look at them. For me, those colors are warm shades of pink, terracotta, and eggplant to merlot.

These colors bring warmth to our space, and because they're my favorites, they are always part of my color palette at home. If you don't know what your favorite colors are, take a look in your closet. We usually wear the colors we like.

Get inspiration from other interiors via Pinterest to see how people mix and match your favorite colors in their homes. Save images on a board that inspire you. If one catches your eye, screenshot it and think about how you would translate that color scheme to your room.

With the Histor MY color app, you can upload your screenshot and select matching paint colors. This is a great way to compile a color palette for your home.

Start with a small space when experimenting with color in your home. Your hallway, for example, is perfect because you can never go too bold in a small space. .”

We absolutely loooove your wallpapers. Do you have any favorite shops with cool wallpapers?

“Yes! My wallpapers are from Eijffinger.com and Belartestudio.com. Both have beautiful designs and are very affordable. If you have a bit more to spend, Arte walls is also a great option for a luxurious feel in your home.”

How do you choose the color of your furniture when your walls are already colorful?

“Mixing colors in my home was a process for me. When I first started decorating, I always chose neutral furniture so I could easily change the colors of my walls.

This is a good tactic and a great place to start, but the real magic happens when you change the colors of your furniture too. Of course, mixing colors has its downside because you're less flexible, but if you start with a color scheme based on your favorite color(s), you're pretty safe when your future self wants to change things up.”

What are the important steps to completely redecorate a room?

“Make a plan and stick to it. Start with a clear vision of what you want to create, including the style and color scheme. Don't forget to choose a color for your ceiling too—it makes a big difference.

Next, select the larger pieces of furniture. Make sure to create contrast with the wall colors. Once you've made the big choices, add some spice with decorations. Choose artwork where the colors come together and let those colors recur throughout the space.”

What is an interior design trick to make a room look bigger?

“Lighting is often overlooked, but it can make a huge difference. Make sure there are no dark corners by placing different lights throughout the room. A mirror also works well, especially if placed directly across from a window, so it reflects light coming in.”
